Farewell Campbell - The Move is Complete

Sunday, April 29th, 2007

On Saturday past I bid farewell to my apartment in Campbell; handing over the keys to my landlord and getting his all important signature on the form to get my bond back from the ACT government. Therefore I am now offically a resident of Wanniassa. Many thanks to Wayne, Jonathon, Cormac, Jan, Bronwyn and Christina who helped me move on ANZAC Day - I’m sorry it took longer than I’d planned. Thanks especially to Christina. She initally was to come to Canberra to spend some time with me but because ANZAC Day ended up being the best time for me to move, she ended up using her leave to help me move and clean my apartment. Thank you!

Now all I have to do is unpack all my stuff!!

Climate Change & Cremation

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

OK, so the title of this post is a bit macabre but it is interesting how the climate change & carbon emissions debates are making people rethink everything. Check out this article from the SMH entitled ‘After life, go back to your roots‘. It reports an Australian scientists call that the dead can help fight climate change by fertilising their favourite tree and also discusses the impact in terms of energy use and carbon emissions of cremation. I wonder how long it will be until we hear calls for the banning of baked beans and Indian food on the grounds of the emission of methane often produced following consumption. Crikey!

I’m Moving House!

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

Yes. it is now offical. I will be moving out of my nice one bedroom apartment in Campbell on ANZAC Day. I have enjoyed my time in the Inner North of Canberra - its been great living so close to ANU and Civic. I will also miss the short (7 min) drive to work past the War Memorial of a morning and by the lake. Sadly, the rent is too much and a great opportunity has come up to share a house with some friends in the south of Canberra at Wanniassa. It will be considerably cheaper and mean I am closer to church and most of my friends who live down that way. The 20 min drive isn’t too bad and still less than what it took me to get to the nearest train station when I lived in Sydney! Sharing a house with two girls will be different but I’m sure it will be a lot of fun. It will be nice to have a bit more space and live in a real house again with decent storage space and a kitchen bigger than a postage stamp.
